Freedom to Read Week Readathon

BCLAFebruary 23 — March 1 is Freedom to Read Week, “an annual event that encourages Canadians to think about and reaffirm their commitment to intellectual freedom, which is guaranteed them under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.” The British Columbia Library Association/Canadian Library Association (BCLA/CLA) Student Chapter at UBC would like to promote and support this event! We will be hosting a live readathon of banned or challenged books or material, in which anyone can sign up for 10-minute blocks to read out loud to whoever is present. Participants can bring a reading of their choice, or may even read their own written material. During the day, writers or educators will speak to their experience with intellectual freedom.
