LWB@UBC Documentary – How to Nail a Dictator

The student committee of Librarians Without Borders (LWB), a student group under LASSA (Library and Archival Studies Student Association), plans to show a documentary film to raise awareness of the history and current situation in Guatemala. LWB provides permanent support to education and literacy in Guatemala, fundraising and raising awareness about international literacy issues.

This event is a screening of a documentary related to Librarians Without Borders’ work. “Granito: How to Nail a Dictator” documents the impact of the prosecution of former Guatemalan president for genocide. This film is an opportunity to learn more about the place and people that we fundraise for, as well as a fascinating look at the place of record-keeping in civil war and war crimes prosecution. The event will include discussion about these topics with students from the iSchool@UBC, as well as fields of study such as international relations, Spanish, Journalism, Education, Anthropology, and First Nations Studies.
