Nick Thornton joined the UBC Library team in January 2014. A UBC alumni, Nick graduated with a BA in History focusing on Canadian and Latin American social movements. Prior to working in the Learning Commons, Nick taught English as a Second Language in Victoria, BC. Nick has an extensive background in education, student leadership, and online learning.

Current Role and Responsibilities

In his current role, Nick provides leadership and management of the day to day operations of the Learning Commons and oversees the student-staff at the Learning Commons Information Desk. As a Student Affairs professional, Nick also works with the rest of the Centre for Student Involvement & Careers team to support and promote student orientation and transition, student learning, and leadership development and involvement. Nick is interested in learning spaces, neuroscience and cognitive development and how they affect the student experience.
