Background
Sophie joined the Centre for Writing and Scholarly Communication in January 2023. Prior to the CWSC, Sophie held administrative positions in the Faculty of Arts at UBC, working in Theatre and Film, Music, and Sociology. Originally from the UK, Sophie moved to Vancouver at the end of 2019 after a decade living and working in Dubai. She was a high school theatre director for many years, and she is a writer, currently working on her third novel.
Current Role and Responsibilities
As the Sr. Program Assistant for the CWSC, Sophie handles the day-to-day running of the Centre. This includes overseeing the scheduling of writing consultations, maintaining the website and event listings, coordinating data collection, and handling the logistics for the Centre’s workshops. She is the first point of contact for all CWSC enquiries.

The University of the Fraser Valley has completed its digitization of the Newman Western Canadian Cookbook Collection, B.C. titles. The UFV Library has digitized 80 titles from the Newman Western Canadian Cookbook Collection (NWCC). Cookbooks, beyond their original intention, are now seen as cultural texts that illustrate a community’s structure including perceived gender norms, as well as food practices and technologies. This project benefits students in fields such as Geography, Anthropology and Culinary Arts as well as individuals, local historians and genealogists, and heritage organizations.
The digitization of the Newman Western Canadian Cookbook Collection, B.C. titles was digitized with support from the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre through its BC History Digitization Program and is made available through Digitization Program and is available via Arca.

The Summerland Museum and Archives Society has completed its digitization of Summerland Review (1946-1967) Digitization Project. The project digitized microfilmed copies of the Summerland Review providing insight to local news articles, national and international news articles, gossip columns, announcements of births and marriages, obituaries, classifieds, Okanagan sports results and news, government notices, and advertisements.

The Société historique francophone de la Colombie-Britannique (SHFCB) has completed its digitization of Publications of BC Francophone Organizations Project. 32,000 pages were digitized from 87 publications of 38 Francophone organizations in 13 B.C. cities, spanning from the 1960s to the present.
The digitization of the Publications of BC Francophone organizations was digitized with support from the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre through its BC History Digitization Program and is available via Arca.
